Tell us a little bit about yourself!

🤍 AYO I’m Weng!! I’ve been working and interning as a marketing intern for 3 years prior to working at Friendzone! I just recently graduated from SIT in Digital Communications & Integrated Media.

What do you do at Friendzone?

I’m a marketing & communications executive here, which means I bring our events and workshops to life through creative publicity, social media strategy, and storytelling. From crafting copy for decks and captions to preparing design briefs, coordinating with clients and creating reels, I help shape how Friendzone shows up — online and offline.

What’s your favourite content piece you’ve ever worked on for Friendzone?

Gen Z Explained: by a Gen Z Facilitator!

It’s the very first blog post I wrote when I joined Friendzone as an intern. Writing is one of my biggest passions (even if I’m still working on my skills 👀), so this was a really fun task. Plus, I got to express my actual opinions (everything you read in there is true 😤). GO CHECK IT OUT IF YOU HAVEN’T!!!

What's your most memorable Friendzone event?

For me, it was the Living Local: Tampines West event. Even though I don’t live there (West Side best side!!), it was really nice to hear residents so passionate about their neighbourhood. People were talking about closed-down shops they miss, local owners they support, and the unique features their area has (east side has more cafes, west has more nature).

I think it’s such a unique and underrated way of connecting, because these are everyday spaces we take for granted — but through conversations, you realise you’ve probably passed by the same people or been to the same places without even knowing 🫶

Ngl, I find neighbourhood events the most fun because everyone’s discovering people they’ve probably crossed paths with at least once in their life but never realised. At one event, two old schoolmates reunited. At another, two people at the same table found out they actually lived in the same block!

What’s something you wish more people know about marketing at Friendzone?

Marketing is a lot more fun and collaborative than it looks! Sure, everything from brainstorming to execution to feedback can be done by one person… but at Friendzone, we love doing it as a team. It helps us discover new perspectives we might never have thought of, catch the small mistakes each other miss, and of course, when we’re making fun TikTok reels, everyone pitches in and we have a ton of fun while doing it 💃

Share with us a piece of friendship advice everyone should know

Don’t be afraid to be the one to reach out!

Whether it’s at a networking event where you don’t know anybody, calling for a meetup with friends you’ve had for years, or reconnecting with someone you’ve drifted apart from…

Most people (especially Singaporeans OOP HAHA THAT’S WHAT MY FELLOW SGEANS TELL ME OK) are too shy to take the initiative. So both sides wait, nobody reaches out, and the friendship never forms/rekindles.

If it helps… as proof, I’ve taken months to reply to someone when I got caught up with work/life/other things! And usually they understand, and the friendship still continues regardless.
