Kendis Tan

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Hello! My name is Kendis and I'm a Psychology graduate from NTU. I’ve always been fascinated by people and the ways we connect, which is what drew me to both my studies and what I do now at Friendzone. Outside of work, you’ll probably find me at the climbing gym or yapping away with my friends over ice cream.

What do you do at Friendzone?

I do social research on the state of friendships in Singapore and explore what Friendzone’s work really means for people and communities.

More recently, I’ve been working on designing a ‘third place’ to help friendships grow in an increasingly isolated generation.

What’s your favourite Friendzone memory?

This sounds cliché, but I genuinely can’t choose because there are too many good moments!

If I had to highlight one, it would be attending my very first Friendzone event as a participant back in 2022. The sense of community pulled me in, led me to an internship, and ultimately back as a full-time team member.

At the heart of it all, it's about doing something that doesn’t really feel like work, because my colleagues are also my friends. It feels more like collaborating on a group project about community building with my community.

#1 makan recommendation?

Enaq Prata in the West!! Hands down the best prata spot ever.

What’s your favourite friendship/work/life quote?

“The grass is greener where you water it.”

I think this applies to all aspects of life: friendship, work, community. Where you choose to put your energy, you’ll see things grow.
