What do you do at Friendzone?

I lead the team that works on marketing our events and initiatives! I also do words — I write (some of) and copyedit (all of) the text you see on Friendzone’s platforms 🥳

What excites you to do the work you’re doing?

I really believe in the power of friendship and meaningful connections, especially as a weapon against division and ignorance. There is so much beauty and diversity in each one of us that’s just waiting to be uncovered! I love being able to use words to express these ideas and bring across perspectives that you might not otherwise have heard.

Favourite song lyrics?

I’m a biiiig music fan so many lyrics come to mind, but a fave since I was a kid is from “Love Me For a Reason” by The Osmonds. There’s a line that goes “… give me love, not a facsimile of.” I’ve always been impressed that someone managed to fit the word “facsimile” into a song.

Also, there’s a line in “Where Were You” by Vic Chestnutt that goes “I was in your place of employment crying in my hummus.” I just love hummus.

(I hope you weren’t expecting this answer to be inspirational)

Favourite content piece Friendzone has put out?

It’s underrated, but I really love our Instagram post from National Day 2020. It was a tumultuous time in the world with COVID etc, and the run-up to our GE just added to the stress. I loved being able to acknowledge the mixed emotions and complicated relationships that we can have with our country without loving it any less.

What's one quirky thing about you?

I have an Instagram highlight (#eggstagram) dedicated to oozing egg yolks, which is something I’ve been documenting for more than 5 years 🍳 I’ve got a technique and everything.
